The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 provides the legal framework to promote, stimulate and encourage high standards of health and safety in places of work.  Everyone has a duty to comply with the Act and employers have responsibilities for the health and safety of their employees.  They are also responsible for any visitors to their premises such as customers, suppliers and the general public.
